Lime Jello Salad

I just received a recipe from an awesome reader, and I would like to share it with you.
This is what she said...

Lime Jello Salad (for Christmas)

*2 small pkgs lime jello
*1 small pkg lemon jello
*1-1/2 cups boiling water
*1 16 oz carton cottage cheese
*1 can crushed pineapple (including the juice)
*1/2 pint whipping cream, whipped
*maraschino cherries, well-drained & cut in half, save the juice
*nuts chopped

Dissolve the 3 pkgs of jello in the boiling water.
Stir in the remaining ingredients, one at a time. Be careful not to get any cherry juice mixed in with the jello to muddy up the color.
When everything is stirred together, pour into glass pyrex dish (I use the large oblong one).
Carefully place in the refrigerator.
When it's started to "set", remove from the fridge, and dip the tines of a fork into the remaining cherry juice, and sort of splatter the juice onto the top of the jello to add some color to it & make it pretty.
Place jello salad back in the fridge.

Doesn't that sound so yummy? I love the juice splatterings. That sounds so fun to do!

4-way Message Center

Oh how I love projects that barely cost anything!

Here's one that I did a few weeks ago:

4 way message Center
----------------------------
-The other finial leftove from my apothecary jar project (free!)
-4x4 post in my scrap bin (free!)
-epoxy (free!)
-twine (free!)
-metal scrap sheet leftover from this project:

(that project only cost me $5! The frame was scrap leftover from my deck railings!)
-cork and burlap leftover from my other message board project (free!)
-clip from Walmart ($1 maybe?)
-candlestick and plaque from Hobby Lobby ($5-$7 maybe?)

So I epoxied all my parts together. Refer to the picture to see how I put that together.

Then I primed and painted it in a flat black.
No picture of that. I must have been lazy that day.

So here are the parts:

Chalkboard
----------------
I hotglued twine around the edges and made a button on  the top. Easy.

Paper Pad
--------------
I epoxied a magnetic clip to the top of the 4x4 to create a holder for a writting pad. Another easy one.

Magnetic Board
-------------------
I cut a scrap piece of sheet metal to size with snips, put epoxy on the back, pressed it firmly into place, then sat books on top of it until it dried.

Corkboard
----------------
I cut a piece of cork board to size, wrapped it up in leftover burlap, and hot glued that to the last side. I used extra button thumbtacks from my giveaway.

And the finished product:

It would make a great centerpiece ;)

Apothecary Jar

Have any of you seen these homemade apothecary jars around blog-land?
It seems like every week someone makes one!

I just HAPPENED to have the beginnings of my own right in my house, so I though, "Why the heck not?"

This candle/candlestick was given to me by my mother-in-law. It's a pretty good quality one, and I love the classic lines to it.

I just never actually had a place for this in my house.
It dawned on me that I could make it into something that I love!

So I bought a wooden circle from Walmart ($1.50 I think?) and a large glass hurricane ($4.00).
BONUS: the lip of the wooden circle fits perfectly into the glass hurricane!!
The finial was already in my house. It's actually a set of two (curtain rod ends!) that I got at Menards on Clearance a while back. Didn't know what I would use them for, but I loved them!

Oh! FYI! I have a project to show you in a couple days that I used the other finial on!

Anyways, I primed and painted all the parts (except the glass of course!)

Then I sawed off the srew to the finial, epoxied that to my wooden circle, then epoxied the candlestick to the glass hurricane.

But what would I do with it?
I saw this post on Gail's Decorative Touch. She also made an apothecary jar. She filled it with her pooch's treats. So I can take no credit for that idea! It all goes to her!

This is mine:

Large Twine Balls

I've seen homemade twine balls all over the web.

The one that really caught my eye was this tuturial over at Domestically Speaking.

I wanted a piece of that action, but I wanted them to be MUCH bigger for a larger impact.
So instead of using regular balloons, I used those cool punching balloons for kids.

Then instead of soaking my twine in a glue/water mixture, I used just regular glue. It needed a tougher hold.
I wrapped it around my balloon...
Waited for it to dry....
and POP!
hehe...

I made two of them and stuck them up on my bookshelf.

Ya like?

Hey, there's that faux window that I was supposed to do something with. Yeah, I obviously still haven't figured out what I'm doing with it.
Oh well, one of these days I'll do something to it.
